Super Borovets Project is starting
The preparations for the start of realization of the widely advertised Super Borovets Project are almost finalized, as recently announced by the Samokov Council. The Project applies to the long term development of holiday-tourists' localization Samokov-Borovets-Belli Iskar.
Its main aim is to expand the current resort of Borovets and turn it into an all year round holiday destination. It will join the existing resort with the main town in the area - Samokov and the village Belli Iskar, into a big tourist area. The existing facilities will be improved and vastly expanded. The ski runs will be extended, creating a huge ski domain. The planned investment is evaluated at 300-400 millions euro. These will be acquired in 3 main stages:

1. Borovets - The first stage of the project foresees the upgrading and modernization of the existing facilities in the current Borovets resort and near Belli Iskar village - west of the resort, to highest European standards.

2. Low Borovets - A new tourist village will be created just outside Samokov town. This area will target tourists who cannot afford to stay in the higher parts of the mountain. Tourist centers and leisure facilities will be created at this level and also an 18-hole golf course. 

3. High Borovets - In the areas about 1400-1700 meters above sea level, new luxury hotels and ski chalets will be built. In these areas, village and eco tourism will be encouraged. Folklore restaurants, model farms, riverside parks and a horse riding centre are all part of the plans. In the "Bialata Poliana" area there are plans for a spectacular 18-hole mountain golf course and a gondola linking the area to the Borovets ski domain.

The planning, Ecological assessment and a Concept of the Government for the development of the tourist region have already been approved. The realization of the project is undertaken by a specially established company in which the majority share was recently purchased by the British Investment fund "EQUEST". The other associates are the Samokov Council and the biggest Bulgarian building company -"Glavbolgarstroy" (GBS).

One of the prior initiatives in the realization of the project is the building of a 9 kilometers' cabin ski-lift, which will connect Samokov (Low Borovets) with the high mountains. A main purpose is the priority construction of the infrastructure in the region, including the water-supply and drains systems, electric distribution and communication networks, before building the new hotels, restaurants, apart-complexes and villa-settlements. This would be guaranteed by the state in case the investors prove their serious interests.  

A second big project
is about to be realized, in parallel to the Super Borovets project. It envisages a development of the Malyovitsa ski area (and the villages west of Belli Iskar - Madzhare, Mala Tsurkva and Govedarci ) with about 50 km new ski runs and accommodation for up to 8000-10 000 tourists.

This added to the unique resources of the nearest SPA resorts of Dolna Banya, Belchin Bani and Sapareva Banya, features the great potential of the area, to get a most attractive European tourist destination.

Although the work on both projects hasn't officially started, the great investors' interest is in evidence. A proof for this is the constantly increasing prices of property in the region.
